Friend of Mr. W. E. and Mrs. A. E. Fry, of 280A Point Road, Durban. Born in Bendigo, Australia. Initially served in the 12th Mounted Rifles (Rebellion and German South West Africa). In January 1917, when he attested in the SA Pioneer Battalion, he claimed Boer War service with the 1st Australian Bushmen. He embarked for Dar-es-Salaam in March 1917. After 8 months in East Africa, malaria took its toll and he was hospitalized in January, February, April, May and November 1918. He finally contracted influenza and died on 14 December 1918. An engineer.
