LG Sup 9 January 1918 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as Forward Observing Officer for his brigade. He reorganised a party that had been broken up by shell fire, and led it forward through a heavy barrage with the greatest gallantry, afterwards accompanying the infantry during the advance and sending back valuable information from the firing line until the end of the attack. On another occasion he went out under an intense hostile bombardment to assist the dress and remove the wounded of a party of infantry, twelve of whom had been knocked out by one shell. But for this gallant action, carried out at great personal risk, the wounded would have been left on the ground."
