Jumbo Hart-Davis was one of Durban's all round sportsmen, played Rugby for Wanderers in the days when they were winning great successes on the Rugby field, and representing Natal in the cricket field. He played for Natal against Captain R. T. Stanyforth's MCC team in 1928 and was responsible for the dismissal of Herbert Sutcliffe for a duck in the game played at Maritzburg, when he caught England's opening batsman off the bowling of Frank Smith.
