Son of John and Ruth O. Dorset, of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. He was born on December 26th, 1922, and entered Milner House in March 1936. He was a marksman in the Cadet Corps, and took an interest in dramatics. He left Plumtree in December 1940, having passed his Cambridge Certificate. He attested in November, 1941, and proceeded on commitment in March 1943. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour.
