Killed in action, Spitfire Vb P8581, collided with Spitfire Va R7264 over Boulogne on bomber escort to Hazebrouck (Circus 40), but managed to bale out. It was reported later through the Red Cross that he had been picked up dead in his parachute

Born Durban, South Africa. 5 confirmed victories, 2 probable victories. Wounded on 2nd October 1940, whilst flying with 603 Squadron. On war memorial for King Edward VII School, Johannesburg.

Citation

LG 23 July 1940 pg. 4530 - "This pilot skilfully manoeuvred his aircraft for 35 minutes when attacked by nine hostile fighters on 21st May 1940. He brought down one enemy aircraft with his front gun and enabled his gunner to shoot down another. Despite his aircraft being badly damaged, the rudder being half shot away by cannon, Pilot Officer Dexter managed to return to his base and land safely."
