Mike Sandham's research log ("List 1"), row Sheet3:5325, imported 16 Sep 2026. Credited to The South Africa War Graves Project (southafricawargraves.org) unless his entry says otherwise. NEW ROH record -- no match on the roll by service number, by surname with date, or on a widened surname-plus-year check. Mike's entry verbatim:
"01 Oct 1979: 77284511BG Rifleman Mark Anthony Ashington from Army Headquarters, South African Infantry Corps Died in Private Vehicle Accident, at Ladysmith. He was off duty. He was 18. Technical Service Corps ... while travelling as a passenger. He was on his way home to Howick on a weekend pass - at the time of the accident - (TDK) TD Veterane Vereniging (Tiffies) NPC FB post (All posts Credit Col (rt) Graham du Toit)."
21 Sep 2026: CauseDeath trimmed to the circumstance of death alone. On import it had been set to Mike Sandham's entire entry, repeating the date, service number, rank, name and unit that this record already holds in its own fields. His wording is quoted verbatim in the citation above, so nothing is lost. Defect found when Graham du Toit's Last Post of 21 Sep 2026 independently confirmed one of these records, Sikirila 49773.
