Native of South Africa. Attended Glenwood High School, Durban. Born Glasgow, Scotland, 17 May 1916, son of Atken McLaren Currie and Susan, ne Martin; ed. Durban Technical High School; General Botha Cadet Draft 1932-3. Robert Martin Currie joined Andrew Weir & Co. in 1934 and during the war served in the SS Langlegorse as Chief Officer. He lost his life during the bombing of the ship off the Irish coast, on 23 January 1941.
