Cause of Death
Killed by a gunshot wound to the chest in a vehicle ambush in the Beitbridge area. His company was on its way home to Brady Barracks, travelling along the Tshiturapadzi to Chikwarakwara road when the ambush occurred, and as the troops debussed to defend their position, Rfn Frederick Bint, Rfn Pieter Blignaut and Cpl Theunis van Tonder were fatally wounded. Cpl Marthinus Kelly and Rfn Niall Campbell, both sustaining abdominal wounds in the ambush, died in hospital of their wounds on 15 May 1976 and 23 May 1976 respectively
