Son of Mr. V. C. Sarbutt
SADF Wall of Remembrance (Voortrekker Monument): named on photograph "1977 SAA (Kruger–Maquinda, Walker–Wilters) to 1978 SAA (Amorim–Cassamano, Hunter–Mandunga)". 1977 Air Force. Right column. 2nd name from the top (Sarbutt P.C.).
Col (rt) Graham du Toit Last Post 20 Aug 2026: 69533016BT 2/Lieutenant Paul Christopher Sarbutt, 40 Squadron, killed in the same AT-6 Harvard 7412 crash near Delmas (spin; pilot unable to recover), age 24. Same aircraft as Capt Keith Neil Smith. Names, number, date, age, and Harvard 7412 already matched.
5 Sep 2026: Unit "40 Squadron" (a squadron, SAAF's regiment-equivalent) promoted to Regiment, per John's decision. Corps (South African Air Force) unchanged.
25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Navy" was CLEARED. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word, and it CONTRADICTED this record's own Branch, "Air Force". Across the roll 787 records carried such a contradiction; judged against Corps and Regiment -- independent of both columns -- the evidence backed Branch 744 times and Unit2 not once. Branch is therefore kept and the contradicting word removed. Nothing is guessed: this man's branch of service is already recorded, and his sub-unit, if any, is simply not known.
