Research notes

25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Army" was CLEARED. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word, and it CONTRADICTED this record's own Branch, "Navy". Across the roll 787 records carried such a contradiction; judged against Corps and Regiment -- independent of both columns -- the evidence backed Branch 744 times and Unit2 not once. Branch is therefore kept and the contradicting word removed. Nothing is guessed: this man's branch of service is already recorded, and his sub-unit, if any, is simply not known.
9 Oct 2026: CONFIRMED CONTAMINATION, CORRECTED. FirstName "Mynette Enoch" cleared -- it belongs to Nguyusa, Mynette Enoch (32261, two rows above, Initials M E); this record's own Initials are "N P". Age 27 cleared -- shared identically across all 12 records from 32257 to 32268, a classic forward-fill block (same signature as the Eric B and Masango/Masedi fixes). Col (rt) Graham du Toit Last Post, 9 Oct 2026, gives this man as "Able Seaman N P Ngwenya...He was 21" -- recorded here, not applied over the cleared value. UNIT CONFLICT, NOT CHANGED: stored Unit "9 South African Infantry Battalion" (an odd posting for a Navy seaman); Graham names "Navy Headquarters". Flagged for review.
9 Oct 2026: Age 21 applied from Col (rt) Graham du Toit Last Post, 9 Oct 2026, per John's instruction to apply stated figures over cleared contaminated values going forward.
