Research notes

26 Aug 2026: Corps from SAWGP Regiment South African Artillery; Unit leftover "10 South African Infantry Battalion" → Army HQ (SAWGP Unit).
4 Sep 2026: Regiment leftover "SA Army" cleared -- that's the service branch (Army, as distinct from Navy/Air Force), not a specific regiment; the actual unit ("Army HQ") is already captured in Unit. Per John's decision, the 52 records with no better Unit info were left as-is.
25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Army" was CLEARED as a duplicate. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word repeating what the Branch column already says. Secondary Unit is for sub-units -- a company, a squadron, a commando -- and this record's branch of service is unchanged at "Army".
Col (rt) Graham du Toit Last Post 28 Sep 2026: service number 94971892 cleared. This record ("Mokwena, Matlhomola Sameul", Army HQ) shared 94971892 with Malatji, Vusimusi Stephen (31534, Personnel Service Corps attached to 4 SAI), a different man, same date of death, same 4 SAI Sickbay location. Today's post names Malatji explicitly by full name, unit and cause, confirming that number as his; cleared here as a duplicate on the wrong record, same pattern as prior clean two-way collision fixes. Not otherwise changed.
Mike Sandham (SAWGP) omissions email, 28 Sep 2026, under "Confusion - Multiple names/ages but same force no / similar cause?": gives this record (94971892, 4 SAI, Personnel Services Corps, epileptic fit, age 25) with SAWGP link https://www.southafricawargraves.org/search/details.php?id=31534 but appends "(Might be Mokwena)" -- Sandham's own research does not resolve whether this and PersonNumber 31806 (Mokwena, Army HQ, SA Artillery, age 23) are the same man or two different men, i.e. today's earlier two-way collision resolution (which cleared 94971892 from 31806 as the wrong holder) is NOT independently confirmed by this source -- it is, if anything, put back in question. Separately, Sandham quotes a Google AI Overview variant: "94971892 Corporal Vusimusi Stephen Malaza from 4 South African Infantry Battalion Died due to an epileptic fit at the 4 SAI sickbay. He was 19" -- this is not a new source, it corresponds to existing PersonNumber 31535 (Malaza, Vusimusi Stephen, age 19, no service number after the 16 Sep 2026 contamination sweep) and is an AI-generated summary, not treated as independent corroboration of anything. NOT REVERSING the 94971892 assignment made earlier today pending a human decision -- flagging only.
Mike Sandham (SAWGP) omissions email, 28 Sep 2026, flagged this record as contaminated by PersonNumber 31801 ("Person # 31802->31807 contaminated by 31801"). FirstName 'Matlhomola Sameul' was a forward-fill import artefact from 31801 (Mokoto, Matlhomola Sameul) -- this record's own Initials (V S) are distinct from every other record in the run, confirming a genuinely different man whose real first name was simply never captured, same pattern as the 16 Sep 2026 ServiceNo sweep on PersonNumber 31534/31535. FirstName CLEARED (Name now surname-only); no replacement guessed. Age (23) NOT touched -- shared by non-contaminated neighbours 31800/31808 too, so not comparably strong evidence of the same artifact.
