Killed in action, contact with insurgents in South Eastern Angola, near Cuito, during Operation Hooper. He was operating with 61 Mechanized Battalion Group SAM-7 Anti-Aircraft team. Just as he was exiting the vehicle to engage Angolan Air Force MIG aircraft with a SAM-7, an enemy 82mm mortar bomb exploeded next to his Ratel IFV, killing him instantly
