Able Seaman Victor "Whitey" De Klerk, from Queenstown, our section leader, was killed in an accident when the Buffel we travelled in overturned and rolled in Athlone, Cape Town, on return to 123 Naval Base, Simonstown, after escorting and providing protection to public busses in and out of Khayelithsha, Cape Town. Whitey was a great guy and well liked by everyone as he always had a smile and a joke and will be sorely missed by those who served with him.
