1 Oct 2026: NAME CONFLICT, NOT CHANGED: DB holds FirstName "Alewyn Petrus". Bushwar Books "Lest We Forget", 1 Oct 2026, gives the same date/rank/cause/unit (Captain, 1 Locating Battery South African Artillery, motor vehicle accident) but names him "Andries Petrus Barnard", and gives Age 29 (DB Age stored as 0/unknown). Not in Col (rt) Graham du Toit's own 1 Oct post, so this is Bushwar's own entry, not a republish -- not corroborated by a second independent source. Neither the name nor the age filled, pending resolution.
2 Oct 2026: DATE/AGE CORRECTED. Mike Sandham (SAWGP) omissions email, 2 Oct 2026, flagged "Query Date?": SAWGP apparently carries this man under two entries -- a thin one dated 1 Oct 1958 (age 29, no detail) and a fuller one dated 29 Jan 1958 (age 38, "A lecturer at Stellenbosch University", full accident account), the latter linked to https://www.southafricawargraves.org/search/details.php?id=29345 -- the exact SAWGP id already cited on this record. DateDeath corrected from 1958-10-01 to 1958-01-29, Age filled to 38 (was 0/unknown), Regiment filled to "South African Artillery" (was blank), AddInfo replaced with the lecturer detail. This also resolves the 1 Oct 2026 Bushwar Books name conflict in this record's favour: Sandham independently confirms "Alewyn Petrus", not Bushwar's "Andries Petrus" -- Bushwar's spelling was the error. This record no longer belongs under the 1 October Last Post at all.
6 Oct 2026: OFFICIAL SAWGP CONFIRMATION, forwarded by Mike Sandham, from Ralph McLean MSM, Project Director, South Africa War Graves Project (email 3 Oct 2026): DateDeath 29-Jan-1958, DateBirth 11-Dec-1919, Age 38, Rank Captain, South African Artillery, 1 Locating Battery, died in private motor vehicle accident between Johannesburg and Potchefstroom while travelling by authorised private transport to attend training. Husband of Sylvia Barnard (nee Van Zyl), Stellenbosch; a lecturer at Stellenbosch University; a son and 2 daughters. Grave headstone reportedly inscribed 29-1-1958, per Sandham. This confirms the 2 Oct correction (1958-01-29, age 38) and resolves the 1 Oct 2026 Bushwar date and age (29) as wrong; DateBirth now filled 1919-12-11.
