Capt. Joseph Johannes (“Jopie”) Fourie of this regiment was court-martialled and shot at Pretoria Central Prison on 20 December 1914 after joining the 1914 Rebellion. H.C. Armstrong, Grey Steel (1937/2006), treats Fourie’s capture north-west of Pretoria and Smuts’s refusal to commute the sentence as a turning point in Afrikaner memory of the rebellion.
