Son of George Beauchamp Gore Dennis, of Newacott, Bridgerule, Devon; husband of Louise M. Dennis, of Mosali Choma, Northern Rhodesia. Father of Nigel Forbes Dennis (January 16, 1912 - July 19, 1989) who was an English writer, critic, playwright and magazine editor.

Citation

DSO LG Sup 4 Nov 1915 pg 10887 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Loos and "Hill 70" on 25 September 1915. He was wounded in the trenches immediately before the assault, but after his wound was bandaged, he advanced with with his company, cheering and encouraging his men till he was again wounded. He was carried back to the drssing station, from which he disappeared after his wound was dressed. Later he was seen catching up his company and again cheering them on till he was wounded a third time"; Bar to DSO LG Sup 9 Jan 1918 pg 558 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although wounded in the back by shrapnel, he refused to leave the battlefield, but continued to lead his battalion with the utmost gallantry and disregard of danger, rallying men who had been drivem back by hostile counter attacks and setting a personal example which enabled his battalion to hold their line".
