Son of George Oldham Coburn and Gertrude Jessie Coburn. Born Heidelberg, Transvaal, 31 December 1916; ed. Witbank Intermediate School; General Botha Cadet Draft 1931-2. In 1933 Frank Stilwell Coburn became an apprentice with Messrs. Hogarth & Sons, serving in their Baron Dichmont and later in their Narragansett, when she was lost in mid-Atlantic on 25 March 1942.
