Killed in action, in Sangin, Helmand Province, he and other soldiers were sleeping out in the open because of not enough bunkers, and he came off sentry duty and was sitting where he slept and was eating when he was hit by shrapnel from a mortar

Son of Gary Brandt and Elaine McCulloch-Brandt, and brother of Sebastian McCulloch-Brandt. From Cape Town, South Africa. Left South African when he was 14 years old and finished his schooling at the Grammar School in Corsham he also attended the Catholic school in Slough for a year before moving to Corsham

Citation

LG Sup 17 September 1917 pg. 9577 - serving with East Surrey Regiment - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty under heavy shell fire. He was instrumental in saving the lives of several NCOs and men of his company who had been buried in a tunnel by an enemy bombardment. He was severely wounded whilst engaged on this duty."
