Son of Charles Place (fought in France at Delville Wood in WW1) and Mary Jane Place nee Hickman. From Peter Place 5 March 2014 - My dad, John Robert Place (born November 16th, 1909) was his elder brother. I believe that he, like my Dad was born in the UK and after his father died c.1920 from the effects of WW1 gas traveled with his mother and my father to SA and lived in the Green Point/Sea Point area of Cape Town.
